Eric Areiter, MD
Dr. Areiter is a cataract and glaucoma surgeon who brings expertise to our Newsom Eye team in the management and treatment of many eye conditions and diseases. He graduated cum laude from Cornell University before working as a researcher and scientist there for two years in the Neurobiology and Behavior department. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia, and did an intern year in surgery and general medicine at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Then, he completed his residency at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana where he performed among the most surgical procedures of any resident over the past decade across every subspecialty of ophthalmology.
Dr. Areiter moved to Abilene, Texas after residency where he founded a comprehensive ophthalmology department as part of the Hendrick Medical Center hospital system, which quickly grew to be the busiest ophthalmology clinic within over a hundred miles. Dr. Areiter is passionate about bringing his patients the latest medical techniques and providing them with advanced care to ensure each patient has the best visual outcome that matches their lifestyle. He has emphasis on cataract and glaucoma surgery while providing treatment for a wide range of eye conditions. These conditions include diabetic retinal disease, macular degeneration, plastic surgery and corneal diseases.
Dr. Areiter was born and raised in Port Washington on Long Island, New York and is a lifelong Mets fan. He enjoys cooking, especially Italian food, with vegetables fresh from his home garden. Dr. Areiter also enjoys spending time with his wife, three young boys and two French bulldog-Boston terrier dogs. As a family, they love to play tennis, swim and go to the beach.
